Argh! The Electric Company

So as many of you may have seen on my facebook status a few days ago, our electic company is claiming that we used over 1200 KWH of electricty in 14 days, which is absolutely ridiculous! We looked back on bills from Tallahassee and we have never used more than 850 in a month . Therefore it is impossible that we would have used even more in half the time...

So we call them today (now that we finally have new cell minutes) and they basically said that we had to pay it and that there was nothing they could do until the next bill comes out. How crazy is that?!? Isn't the fact that they are saying we used that much in 14 days a red flag that something is wrong? Why would we have to wait a whole new billing cycle? And how does that make this bill fair and worth paying?

So all that to say...how would you handle this situation? Would you pay the bill and wait for the next cycle or refuse to pay and demand they get someone out now? It is so hard to deal with a company, that is not operating with Godly Excellence, in a Godly way. Let me know what you would do or if you have had a similar situation before that you can share some wisdom from.

Thanks!

Well I personally would try to negotiate again. There is an obvious error in the reading and I would ask to talk with a supervisor. Anytime I have had an issue with a company like this I have been able to work it out. I do believe that the "squeeky wheel gets the grease" and in a case such as yours I think you need to stay on them, especially since your billing history shows this charge is excessive.

Ask any of my former roommates, I don't back down when it comes to unfair bills, etc., I have seen companies knowingly or unknowingly take advantage of customers (like me!). It is not right and thus I the customer will hold them accountable. I'm nice but firm no less.

Hope all is well with you guys aside from this!

No need to ask Gretchen's former roommates, just ask her former coworker! HAHA! She can stay on some people and get the job done. I loved listening to her end of the phone conversation. I do agree with her. I would call back. You never know who you will get to talk to next. They might be more accommodating.
